A planned absence must be reported at least one week prior to a rehearsal. Absences because of illness or other emergency must be reported by the day of rehearsal.

Absences are allowed for the following reasons

  • Illness
  • Family emergency
  • Religious Holiday
  • School Sponsored activity (Performance, rehearsal, trip, etc)
  • College Auditions/Visits

Absences are not allowed for

  • Homework
  • After-school job
  • Filling out college applications
  • Prom

Sound Check

All ensembles will have a soundcheck on their concert day at the concert venue. The student must be present for this Sound Check in order to perform on the concert. Call times will be posted in the concert information page.

All other absence requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis

This form is only for rehearsal absences. If you are going to be absent from a concert, please email patrick@gdyo.org

Consequences:

Consequences are at the discretion of the staff or conductor.  Absences will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
The GDYO reserves the right to remove any student from a concert if the conductor feels their absences have been excessive enough to where the student and/or ensemble is not fully prepared to perform.

Late Arrival/Leaving before rehearsal ends:

Being “on time” to a rehearsal means being at least 10 minutes early with all the necessary equipment.  Students may not be late without 1 week notice to the office.

Leaving rehearsal early without 1 week notice is unacceptable unless the student is ill and has spoken with a GDYO staff member.
